ActiveState’s Komodo

Over the years I have religiously edited all my source code with VIM via a terminal session. I’ve recently started using Python for a couple of projects and started searching for an IDE with modern features such as: call-tips, auto-complete, and a debugger. Not to mention I really needed to take advantage of my screen real estate. I checked out a couple IDE’s before selecting ActiveState’s Komodo. If you write code in Ruby, Perl, PHP, Python, or TCL, then I highly suggest taking a look at it. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing all these years. The remote debugging feature is awesome! In fact I stumbled upon a coupon for a free copy of Komodo 3.5 Personal Edition. There are a few features missing from the personal edition. The only feature I’ll be missing is the ability to integrate with Subversion and friends.

I’ve updated my DVD Ripping & Encoding w/ XViD document to reflect changes with the XViD codec that are included in AutoGK v2.26 and a few other minor things.

Home Grown Video on Demand

A few months ago I started ripping and encoding all my DVDs to XViD (MPEG-4) and storing them on my Linksys NSLU2, which is psuedo rack mounted in my basement. I’m using Xbox Media Center as my video on demand frontend and it works great! I’ve started a document on Writely that covers the entire process. Hopefully, I’ll have it finished up soon. Until then, here’s the work in progress: DVD Ripping & Encoding w/ XViD
